This summary describes select products launched or enhanced during the quarter, highlighting interesting developments as well as themes where we have observed increased market activity. Insurers continued expanding access to protection for underserved customers, including simplified underwriting critical illness (CI) and health products for people with pre-existing conditions, and new solutions addressing the protection needs of children and their families. Hybrid products also continued to evolve, combining life protection with treatment benefits, enabling policyholders to access accumulated cash value to cover healthcare expenses, and enhancing occupational disability products with temporary benefits triggered by serious illness rather than work incapacity. Insurers further expanded distribution beyond traditional channels by embedding life and income protection into home-moving and family-finance platforms. AI-enabled solutions included smartphone-based wellness screening, AI-powered predictive analytics to support earlier clinical outreach, and conversational quotation tools. Finally, insurers expanded wellness offerings through healthy-food incentives and weight-management and metabolic-health support.
Simplified underwriting for impaired lives
In Hong Kong, Chubb launched the Chubb Care Critical Illness (CI) Series that includes four products: three simplified-underwriting plans for cancer survivors (Cancer Care),1 people with cardiovascular disease histories (Cardio Care),2 and individuals with well-controlled diabetes (Diabetes Care)3 as well as Chubb Every Care4 for healthy individuals. Cancer Care and Diabetes Care each cover 128 illnesses, while Cardio Care covers 43. All four products are bundled with value-added services including medical case-management and complimentary psychological counselling.
In South Korea, Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance launched My Body N Tailored Simplified Health Insurance for customers with pre-existing medical conditions. Unlike conventional simplified-issue products that may assess cancer and cardio-cerebrovascular histories under a single standard underwriting process, the product evaluates the disease categories separately using a five-year medical-history lookback. This can allow customers to obtain higher coverage limits for a disease category in which they do not have the relevant recent history,5 a related initiative was featured in the Q2 2026 report, where customers can select the underwriting type on a rider‑by‑rider basis, so those with a specific chronic condition can still access riders unrelated to their condition under standard underwriting pricing, potentially lowering their overall premiums.

Hybrid Solutions
In Germany, Zurich Gruppe Deutschland enhanced its occupational disability insurance by adding a critical illness benefit that provides earlier financial support when the insured is diagnosed with cancer, a heart attack, or a stroke. The product pays a temporary monthly benefit equal to the insured occupational disability benefit for 18 months when specified severity criteria for cancer, heart attack, or stroke are met, without requiring occupational disability being confirmed. By triggering payment based on the diagnosis and severity of a covered illness rather than the policyholder’s ability to work, the enhancement provides financial support during the period between diagnosis and either qualifying for occupational disability benefits or having to stop working.11
In South Korea, Kyobo Life Insurance launched Kyobo Refill Health Whole Life Insurance, combining whole-life death protection with treatment benefits for cancer, brain disease, heart disease, and dementia. Available to individuals aged 15-65 with premium-payment terms of 5, 10, 15, or 20 years, the product establishes a dedicated health account with an aggregate treatment-benefit limit of up to 10 times the main-contract sum insured. Benefits for eligible cancer, brain disease, and heart disease treatments are payable once per year for each covered treatment, while benefits for approved targeted dementia drugs are payable according to specified administration-frequency schedule. Each payment reduces the remaining balance in the health account. Twenty years after enrollment, the health account amount is restored, returning the account to its original aggregate limit. After the premium-payment period ends, the policy may also be converted to provide long-term-care or pension benefits.12
In Bangladesh, MetLife launched MetLife Health Savings Plan, which combines life insurance protection and savings with the ability to access the funds to cover healthcare expenses. From the second policy year, policyholders can use a portion of the paid basic premiums for cashless payments at approved hospitals, diagnostic centres, and pharmacies through the MetLife Health Card. The accessible portion increases over time, reaching a maximum of 35% from the fifth policy year onward, and any amount used reduces the cash value remaining in the policy. Policyholders can also contribute additional funds, subject to an allowable limit, to the Health Wallet, a top-up account that is fully accessible from the first policy year.13,14
Alternative distribution
In the UK, digital protection provider Eleos partnered with Homebox, a household-bills management and home-moving platform, to embed life insurance and income protection into the rental and home-moving journey. When renters and people moving homes set up their household bills, they can obtain a quote and purchase coverage without leaving the Homebox platform. Customers also have the option to speak with an Eleos adviser for help with pre-existing medical conditions, complex occupations, nonstandard income, or coverage decisions.15
In Spain, MAPFRE partnered with Carrefour’s tied insurance agency to launch a simplified-issue, single-premium whole life funeral insurance product for applicants aged 55 and older. The policy also includes up to €15,000 per claim for emergency medical care, surgery, and pharmacy expenses incurred outside Spain. Carrefour Club members receive a 3% rebate on premiums, credited to their loyalty account for use on future Carrefour purchases.16
In the U.S., UNest, a platform that helps parents invest for their children’s future through tax-advantaged custodial accounts, added a UNest-branded term life insurance journey powered Ladder, a digital-first distribution insurTech, to embed access to term life insurance within the UNest app and website. Parents can request an instant quote on UNest, with personal information shared with Ladder to provide coverage options and process the application.17

AI-enabled solutions
In Italy, Vittoria Assicurazioni added complimentary access to Comestai Check, a digital wellness screening service, and a 24/7 medical support center as value-added services for customers who purchase illness-related coverage under its modular health and accident insurance product “Vittoria con te – Salute e Benessere.” Through the Comestai smartphone app, customers can complete a 60-second facial scan using camera-based remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) to receive an indicative reading of selected physiological measures, including heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. A 24/7 medical center is also available to help interpret results and guide customers toward appropriate next steps, without providing diagnoses or prescriptions.18,19
In the U.S., Cigna Healthcare is expanding its care-management capabilities through AI-enabled tools and predictive analytics designed to identify individuals who may benefit from earlier clinical support. Inputs may include diagnoses, prescription fills, myCigna searches related to behavioral health, and other health data. More than 1,250 Cigna clinicians, including nurse case managers and behavioral-health specialists, use these insights to prioritize outreach and support care coordination. These tools do not diagnose conditions or determine treatment.20
In Brazil, Seguros Unimed launched a WhatsApp-based quotation journey for GlobalVida, its group life insurance product, aimed primarily at small and medium-sized businesses. The new digital journey uses AI to generate tailored plan options based on a company’s monthly budget and workforce size. Rather than starting with preset coverage levels, the broker asks how much the business can afford to pay each month, using that amount as the starting point for the quote. The calculation takes only seconds, and brokers can finalize the proposal through Seguros Unimed’s Calcule+ quoting platform, creating a fully digital sales process intended to make group life insurance more accessible and less complex for smaller employers.21 This launch reflects a broader trend in Brazil, where insurers are introducing WhatsApp-based, AI-powered life insurance quotation tools to support agents and brokers.22,23
In the U.S., Choice Mutual launched a ChatGPT app that allows consumers to research final expense insurance and compare quotes from multiple insurers through a conversational interface. After collecting five inputs, including gender, date of birth, desired coverage, state of residence and recent tobacco use, the assistant connects to Choice Mutual’s internal platform to retrieve actual policy prices rather than broad estimates or ranges. Users can also ask questions about coverage, pricing, and policy types using information from Choice Mutual’s library of educational resources. In New Zealand, AIA launched the AIA Vitality HealthyFood Benefit, providing eligible members with discounts on qualifying fresh fruit and vegetables purchased in-store at Woolworths New Zealand supermarkets. Members link their AIA Vitality account to Woolworths’ loyalty program and activate the benefit each calendar month through the AIA Vitality app. Standard AIA Vitality members receive a baseline discount of 10% after linking their accounts and activating the benefit each month. The discount increases to 25% after they complete the annual AIA Vitality Health Check. The discount applies to the first NZ$60 of qualifying purchases each month, providing maximum monthly savings of NZ$15 at the 25% level. Qualifying products include fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh pre-cut produce, and fresh herbs, while dried, canned, and frozen produce, condiments, and other nonqualifying grocery items are excluded.25 This represents an extension of the Vitality healthy-eating programs available in other markets, including South Africa,26 UK,27 and the U.S.,28 where members can receive discounts or cashback on qualifying healthy food purchases.

In the U.S., Curative, a health insurer, partnered with Wondr Health to add behavior-based weight-management and metabolic-health support to its employer-sponsored group health plans at no additional cost to eligible members. Curative identifies and guides qualifying members into Wondr’s digital program through its Baseline Visit assessment and ongoing care-navigation model. Through the digital program, eligible members receive nutrition guidance, practical lessons on healthy eating and weight-management behaviors, and coaching to help them develop sustainable habits. Support is adapted to members’ individual health needs and may address specific weight-related or metabolic-health risks. Where clinically appropriate and when covered by the member’s plan, the program may also support the use and management of GLP-1 medications.29
Child coverage
In Canada, Wawanesa Life launched Child Critical Illness, an individual CI product that provides families with a lump-sum payment if the insured child is diagnosed with one of 33 covered conditions. The product is fully underwritten and covers serious illnesses as well as child-specific conditions, including autism, cerebral palsy, and congenital heart disease. Parents or guardians can apply when a child is 15 days to 17 years old and choose coverage up to CA$1 million; coverage continues until age 75, although certain child-specific conditions have earlier age limits. It also includes a free built-in CA$25,000 term life rider valid until age 25, which can be increased to CA$100,000 at time of issue. Between ages 21 and 25, the life rider may be converted, without medical evidence, into term or permanent life insurance coverage of up to five times the original amount. The product provides various value-added services including access to virtual health care as well as access to Mightier, a biofeedback video game program available until age 17 that combines a wireless heart rate monitor with specially designed apps to help children learn to regulate their emotions and manage stressful situations in real time.6,7
In the U.S., Ethos and North American Company for Life and Health Insurance expanded their Indexed Universal Life (IUL) offerings to provide standalone permanent life insurance for children from infancy to 17 years. Parents can apply completely online through Ethos’ digital application with no medical exam or lab tests required. The policy combines lifelong death-benefit protection with cash-value growth potential linked to index strategies. Coverage is available up to an aggregate US$500,000 per child, and policy ownership may be transferred to the insured child at age 18.8 This product illustrates the ongoing recent trend of digitization expanding to permanent life insurance.
In the UK, Royal London enhanced its individual income protection offering by introducing new benefits that provide financial support if a policyholder’s child becomes seriously ill, is hospitalized, or dies, recognizing the impact these circumstances can have on a parent’s ability to work.9 Similarly, in France, APRIL, a broker, partnered with the Comyces Foundation for Children to develop Garantie Parent Présent, a benefit incorporated into group protection contracts distributed by APRIL. The benefit tops up France’s statutory Daily Parental Presence Allowance (AJPP), providing additional compensation to eligible employees who reduce or stop work to care for a seriously ill, injured, or disabled child.10
